A different Halloween evening with your family!

Halloween, the perfect occasion to binge on sweets without any guilt but also to have fun with friends & family! Most kids enjoy the frantic search for the most original costume they can possibly create for October 31st.

But some kids are not into walking the streets at night and knocking at the door of people they don’t know. If your child is part of that group, there are many other ways to celebrate this feast with the family! Here are some ideas.

On the other side of the door

Many « trick or treaters » circulate in your neighborhood in quest of candies? Purchase some treats (and if you feel like it you may also prepare individual bags) and have your child participate! Let him (or her) answer the door and give the surprises to the other kids. It is a way to be involved and slowly take pleasure in the Halloween evening! The most daring may dress up to be even more in the spirit of the party.

The theme movie night

Your family enjoys cinema? Nothing easier! You can organize a movie night and pick a movie that has to do with Halloween as long as it is suitable for the whole family (there are plenty of choices: The Nightmare Before Christmas, Casper, Monster House, The Addams Family, Corpse Bride, etc.).

A do-it-yourself “hidey-hole”

Here’s a new project for you: Set up an under-the-bed hiding-place as part of the IMAGINE Collection (see also the IMAGINE Collection in white!).

To start off, close your eyes and go back to when you were 5 years old. Are you there yet?

Now imagine that you have an ultra-secret hiding-place for yourself and your friends. Doesn’t this make you jump for joy?

Children love to have a little space all their own – which is why I promise you, this little hideaway under a loft bed will be an instant success. And best of all, it should take you no more than 30 minutes to set it up once you have everything you need.

View the step-by-step presentation for completing this fun project, below. Once it’s done, you can sit back and enjoy a great coffee while your child has fun in this new “secret” hiding-place!

Various types of children’s beds

You’re expecting a new bundle of joy in your life and your eldest child needs to change rooms? You’ve moved, or your youngest has turned into a bassinet-climbing acrobat? For this and many other reasons, maybe you have to make do with a room small enough to give you headaches. I don’t have the solution to headaches, but I can sure help you navigate through the various types of children’s beds available on the market. Then you can assess your needs and decide which bed would suit you best.

This type of bed has a simple look to it but may be just the ticket if you don’t want to buy a headboard. You can hide storage bins underneath. It’s a cost-effective solution since it doesn’t require a box spring.

Furniture and health : standards that make a difference

We understand that when you buy a bed for your child, their health and safety is your primary concern. Not only do you think about the strength of its design and construction, you also need to look at the materials used due to the possibility of emissions or the presence of heavy metals.
At South Shore Furniture, safety is our number one priority. To ensure the safety of our products, we adhere to rules and standards that are widely recognized in our field.

The infamous formaldehyde…

We often get asked if the smell of new furniture comes from the chemical formaldehyde. Not at all! You’ll sleep better in the knowledge that the American CARB standards are very strict on this subject, and all our suppliers must comply with them. Manufactured particle board products are tested by an accredited laboratory set up specifically for this purpose. In addition to external testing, we regularly check components and assembled furniture to ensure that formaldehyde emissions do not exceed these standards. Did you know that formaldehyde levels cannot be reduced to zero because the substance is naturally present in wood?
So what’s behind the smell? It comes from the dozens of wood species used to manufacture the boards.
